Soundness/ Lameness Exam: A complete exam of the musculoskeletal system of the horse. Initial exams start with looking and feeling the horse over from head to toe. The horse is then evaluated at walk, trot, after flexions, and if necessary undersaddle or lounge. The findings during exam direct whether blocks, radiographs, ultrasound, or medical therapy is necessary. Various intra-articular and regional injections can be successfully performed at the stable.
Purchase Exam: Before the exam begins, a full history of the horse is collected from seller. An extensive physical exam is performed including auscultation of heart and lungs, basic ophthalmic, neurological, and full soundness exams. Ideally the horse can be seen on hard and soft footing and seen in hand and undersaddle. If no significant abnormalities are seen, then further testing is continued based on buyer's desire. Most horses are radiographed, however the number of areas examined does vary based on need. This may include feet, fetlocks, hocks, stifles, carpus, necks, and backs. Another aspect of the purchase exam is obtaining blood samples for testing. These also vary on individual preference, but may include CBC, Chemistry, Drug Screen, and Current Coggins test.
Digital Radiography: The Eklin Mark III system used provides excellent, immediate images taken at the stable. CDs can be burned at time of exam for the client.
Digital Ultrasound: The M Turbo used obtains clear, detailed images of areas examined. The linear 13-6 MHz transducer gives fine details of smaller structures such as tendons and ligaments. A curved array 5-2 MHz transducer allows imaging of deeper structures such as the sacroiliac region.
Shockwave Therapy: The VersaTron system used provides high energy, focused shockwaves at all energy levels. Energy levels 1-6. Probes 5mm, 20mm, 35mm
PRP: Platelet Rich Plasma is obtained from processed blood from your horse and can be injected into soft tissue lesions and joints to improve healing and relieve pain. Ultrasound guidance is used to ensure accurate placement of PRP into injured tissues.
Laser Therapy:The K Laser Cube 12watt, class IV, offers a drug free, pain-free, and non-invasive treatment to relieve pain, reduce swelling, and increase range of motion. It can be used as a single treatment or in series.
